   Activities

Many of our visitors come to rest, relax, and rejuvenate. Relaxing massages, reflexology, or energetic body work are available at La Paloma to enhance the soothing relaxation provided by soaking in our free flowing mineral pools. La Paloma is the only natural flow bath house currently open in what was formerly known as Hot Springs, New Mexico. For those who like to stay a bit more active or explore, there are many activities available in the area throughout the year. T or C is not only located on the Rio Grande, but is between the two largest lakes in New Mexico; Elephant Butte Lake and Caballo Lake. Boating, fishing and camping are available as well as jet-ski rentals, boat races, and river rafting and tubing. Museums in the area include Geronimo Springs MuseumVeterans Memorial Park and the Hamilton Military Museum, and El Camino Real International Heritage Center. There are ghost towns to visit, historic mines, and farming and ranching tours. Spaceport America offers tours on the weekends (info). There are several local art galleries to visit. Our monthly Art Hop  is held the second Saturday of the month from 6 to 9 pm. All of the galleries are open downtown as well as numerous shops and restaurants.  Many visitors enjoy the several hiking trails, biking, horseback riding, and exploring nearby wilderness areas. Yoga and movement classes are available and many workshops and seminars are held in T or C. Year round birding is popular, as according to Cornell University, Sierra County has reported sightings of 374 species and 41 other taxa during a 12 month period. We offer two courses for golfers, the Municipal 9-hole course and an 18-hole Championship course in Elephant Butte. Rock hounds will not be disappointed as there are local sites and nearby abandoned mine sites to explore. A list of local activities is available on the County Tourism website.  Some suggested day trips are the White Sands Missile Range, City of Rocks State Park, Emory Pass, Very Large Array in Socorro, Gila Cliffs Dwellings, and much more.  There are many local events held throughout the year. These include Fiesta Celebration, Cowboy Shoots, Easter Pickle Race, Bass Tournaments, Dam It Man Triathlon, golf tournaments, Sunset Regatta, Christmas Parade of Lights, Fiddler Contest, and much more. Current events can be found at SierraCountyEvents.com.  Please call or stop by our office and we will be happy to help you explore the activities you are interested in.
